I think my maple leaf cookies came out well. The frosting is buttercream made with 1 stick of real butter, 1 box of powdered sugar, and about 3 tablespoons of apple cider. I used Watkins' new natural food colorings. There's potential here to mix the frosting colors more. Could be great fun as a family activity.

Witchy Good Fun
Looking for a cozy mystery series for a wet October day? These Carol J. Perry books are fun. Book 1 begins when Lee Barrett returns to her home town of Salem, MA, looking for a newsroom job at the local TV station. Turns out the only thing available is a gig working as a late-night, call-in psychic. And then she discovers she has some real abilities to see the future, communicate with ghosts, and help solve murder mysteries… with the assistance of a large yellow, magical cat named O’Ryan. My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Giant meterorites usually don't grow! But this THING at the bottom of the ocean near the Antarctic ice limit sure does!! It's growing, and changing, and has found a way to control many of the humans seeking to destroy it. This is an excellent science fiction techno thriller. No knowledge of the Gideon Crew or Ice Limit series is required. The book can be read as a stand alone, although it would tend to spoil the suspense if you went back and read the earlier books. Highly recommended.

Looking for an unusal read?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is an entertaining, thought-provoking tale about a colorful family of psychics who seem fated to tangle with the Chicago mob and an even shadier government agency! I can't say too much more without giving away a string of surprises. Highly recommended.
